10 songs to fuel your wanderlust
Alina Baraz - Fantasy
I mean the first verse has the word ‘getaway’. This is one of those seductive songs that lets your imagination run wild to get you in that couple's travel state of mind. No family travel inspiration here.
2. Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape
This is also one of those songs where she’s talking to her boo about just escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday life and feeling ready to find & be in her happy place. Super classic.
3. Tracy Chapman w/ Jonas Blue Dakota Remix - Fast Car
I like to think of the remixed song as the millennial version of the original. This song gives you total road trip vibes; it’s all about having a fast car to escape from your hometown ASAP and following through with your plan to establish a new life! It also rings true to those who want to take a risk and listen to their intuition to experience what they truly want out of life.
4. Petit Biscuit - Sunset Lover
This one is my absolute FAVORITE! Here’s the funny thing though, it doesn’t have any lyrics; it’s not even talking about travel, yet every time I listen to it, it makes me think of my future and living out my ultimate happiness by experiencing the world. It’s the way it starts, like it has such a good undertone yet to the outside world it sounds very ordinary. I guess I can relate to that. It gives me happiness in the current moment & encourages me to keep going towards my path. And then it ends the same way it started, like that’s life, you lived it and you enjoyed it. If you do listen to it, let me know how it makes you feel and what message you got from just listening those very unique sounds.
5. Galantis - Runaway U & I
Okay this is probably my second favorite (I have so many). I love the way it starts; by realizing the true potential of the person you are with, how being with them makes you feel your best. This song is all about how you would be fine without them, but the best version of your life is with them. And the way this song speaks to me, I believe it will speak to so many others. Living in a city is not an ideal life for me, if it were up to me I would be somewhere tropical with clean (non polluted) air & crisp oxygenated water. Not everybody is in love with where they live geographically and I bet there are a lot of couples out there who would want to travel somewhere new to find their ideal place to call home. If that’s you right now, this one’s for you.
6. Kygo - This Town
This song hit home when I first listened to it. A girl with big dreams, who sees so many people her age already having kids at the age of self-discovery. I have never felt like I am above or better than others, but I have also never felt like I am like everyone else. This is why I don’t follow what everybody else is doing, because I want my own lifestyle, I have my own lifestyle & vision. “I don’t want to live my life in circles; I just want to find an empty road, let’s get away from here, let’s go.” First off, the travel inspo is REAL in these exact lyrics; & as someone who has been on 2 roadtrips, I can relate to the feeling of being on an empty, long road thousands of miles away from home- you can drive wherever you want that day, & the possibilities for adventure are endless. Also, how appealing does an empty road sound to someone who is used to life in a big city with thousands of cars causing traffic?? To me, “I don’t want to live my life in circles” translates to saying, life is too short to not live out your dream, it’s too short to live out the same thing everyday over and over again while neglecting the fire inside you. Don’t put out the fire, spark it, watch it grow, enjoy it and make it last.
7. Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me
Who wants to travel to Mexico?!!? The intro to this song is amazing by the way. The song is very sensational in the sense that the lyrics are specific to what the singer wants to experience. He describes his perfect day and by asking “are you with me?” he wants to know if you’re on the same wavelength; do you vibe with his vision? Do you want to come along for the ride? Perhaps you can dedicate this song to someone you want to travel to Mexico with.
8. The Chainsmokers - Paris
This song makes me imagine myself running away to Paris to #livemybestlife. Exploring a new way of life, meeting new people and spending time with the love of my life. When the lyrics say “let’s show them we are better” it’s like a reinforcement to those who have ever felt like they wanted to do so much but others doubted them, it’s like saying just go live your life, you’ll make it, go show them.
9. Bliss n Eso - Traveling Band
This song is inspiration for those looking to do some group travel.
10. Benny Blanco, Halsey & Khalid - Eastside
Have you ever just wanted to leave? Have you ever just imagined having the freedom to go wherever you want, whenever you want? How awesome would it be to take your favorite person with you? This song balances those emotions with the inner conflicting emotions of growing up, getting a job you’re not passion about just to pay the bills and make ends meet, & putting what you really want to do on the backburner. Possibly one of my favorite quotes from the song is “we can do anything if we put our minds to it. Take your old life then you put a line through it”. It’s my favorite because this lyric is acknowledging the power of the mind; you don’t have to wish for your life to be a certain way, you just have to believe you will achieve whatever your heart desires out of life. Your mindset is the first step in bringing your vision to fruition, to life. Whatever you don’t currently like about your life, you can change by believing in yourself. You will do great things and travel the world, realize that it all starts with you.
